Placed within a long canyon outside of Tucson, Az, the small pavilion takes one aspect of the surrounding arid environment and enhances it so as to allow for a greater understanding and awareness of the compelling and unique surrounding environment.

The perception of distance and the surrounding environment enables people to form an understanding of the area and their place within it. The Sonoran Desert has a way of playing with the inherent understanding of distance. The pureness of the desert air makes distances appear clearer and closer than they actually are. This pavilion seeks to enhance this desert phenomenon. From within, the viewer will be immersed in this altered reality of the outside world and, much like the desert, if the viewer does not spend a long enough period of time within it, he or she may not even come to notice the deception.
